New Job - New Digs
The universities of Thailand require uniforms throughout the whole educational system (even graduate level). The typical uniforms in the Thai system are of the nice couple that follow.
Many of the young ladies appear in uniforms of the following type which the universities are trying to ban. I can't see why.
Tight shirts and tiny skirts with front, rear or side slits are all the rage for female university students.
Below is the website of the University currently employing me. It is called Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University located in Pathumtani or about 40 kilometers north of Bangkok. I seem to be getting further and further away from Bangkok.

On June 4th I moved out of my apartment on Klong three. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Back in July of last year I gave them a one month deposit of 5500 Baht (a little less than $150). Well that was three managers ago and they had no record of my giving them a deposit and I didn't have the receipt. So on Saturday I was told I would need to pay 3600 Baht for utilities which I was reluctant to pay but wanted to avoid the hassle. By Sunday it had increased to 5200 Baht (additional electrical PLUS cleaning charge. I gave them 4000 and left. Just watch out if you decide to stay at SC Place they will try to take as much as they can get from you.
My new digs are pretty good. Two bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room and bath but only partially furnished. I have a bed, table and chest for clothes. A table and refrigerator in the dining room. A desk and chair in the 2nd bedroom. The kitchen has a sink with a cupboard but no stove. I have central air in the bedroom. Houses over hear are either concrete or wood. Mine is wood and easier to cool and keep cool. Needs some cleaning (Three months since someone has lived there.) Needs painting on the inside also. Not bad for 4000 Bhat (about $110) a month which includes all utitlites.
June 5th was my first day on the job and I had a class scheduled at 8:30 but it was freshmen English with all of the first year students in orientation the first two days. So no classes on the first day. My Tuesday morning class also consisted of 1st year students so I did not have my Tuesday morning class either. Finally at my 1pm English for Mathematics class I had 10 students show up. I do my standard introduction and ask them the same questions to try to find their level of English understanding. They range in age from 19 to 21 and I believe it will be a very fun class. Wednesday is a no class day so I will be spending it writing my syllabuses for my classes. Will let you know how things go next week. Friday marks the campus ceremonies honoring the king and the university will be closed Monday and Tuesday next week. Bangkok will be the center of the world (at least for those interested in monarchs go). King Rama IX is very popular in this country. If you want to get in a fight with the Thai people say something bad about the royal family or Buddha and you will have your fight.
